What are Recalls? How you can help;
Tomorrow may be too late.
What are Recalls?
Recalls are your democratic right to hold your MLA responsible for their actions. The Alberta Government - UCP, at this time, has voted on bills that negatively affect your neighbours and your communities. The UCP government passed the legislation for recalls with Bill 52 under Kenney and amendments with Bill 54 under Smith.
Why are we recalling MLAs
Education:
Bill 2 - forced teachers back to work with the notwithstanding clause - no opportunity for local bargaining and no voice in the complex classroom committee. They lied about hiring 1,000 more teachers this year as part of their settlement with teachers (They haven’t, and that means they can lie about the other 2000 they promised over the next two years). The Minister sent out a Christian letter during the winter holiday.
They then passed Bill 9 - using the notwithstanding clause again to stop gender affirming care, use of different pronouns or names without parental permission, and the fairness in sports - having girls fill out paperwork stating they were born female.
Public education funding has grown ~21% while, Private schools has grown 58%.
Health Care:
They have split up healthcare, apparently following European models similar to those in Sweden, promoted and tracked in Alberta by an organization called Second Street. (The Alberta government has not shared this with the general public, but it sure looks like that is their plan. I just learned about this group and the idea behind the Alberta Health restructuring this week.) See the details here:
Some critiques - First, Alberta doesn’t have the healthcare workers to implement this system. The Swedish system relies on long-term care in the community for the elderly and those who need home care. In Alberta, the Emergency Room bottleneck requires Albertans getting care in the community to free up hospital beds for those who need them. Second, vaccination rates in Alberta. Vaccinations have been difficult to get, and are costing Albertans out of pocket. Therefore, flu, COVID-19, and RSV that would be mild will end up in hospitals. So far this year, there have been 73 influenza deaths, 77 deaths from COVID-19, and 3 RSV deaths. The influenza positivity rate is 35.9%. Vaccinations and masking help! (These are two of many but they are ones to start with)

Hospitalists have received a letter stating that their services will no longer going to receive a stipend as of March 31, 2026, with nothing proposed to replace it.

Now we are told that elective surgeries are going to be cancelled in the next few weeks because of staffing by Protect Our Province. (they were active during COVID-19 to keep Albertans safe)
Also, the government has signed contracts with the Alberta Surgical Group to perform 8,000 knee, hip, and shoulder surgeries for $340 million while refusing to fund the Royal Alex Orthopedic Center. Public surgeries are at least 50% the cost of private surgeries.
Social Services:
They are taking off the $200 top-up from the federal government for AISH recipients from their monthly checks starting in February 2026, regardless of whether they have started receiving the money. They are going to move all AISH recipients to a new program called ADAP in July of 2026. This will take an additional $200 away and further harm the disabled community. They can appeal, but the people looking at the appeal are not necessarily medical personnel and will not necessarily understand the medical files. Everyone on AISH has gone through a medical system of diagnosis before submitting their paperwork, and their doctors have agreed that they are not able to hold down full-time work; some are unable to work at all.
Environment:
Coal mines, abandoned oil and gas wells, water being used for AI, fracking, oil sands, and coal mining (gets polluted and can’t be cleaned yet). The government is looking at developing wild regional areas - Little Smokey, Southern Saskatchewan, and the South Athabasca area. (This could be why Rebecca Schultz stepped down as Environment Minister)
This is why we have to act now!
Danielle Smith has stated that she will not call an election until October 2027. By then, there may not be a health care system that you, your family, and community can rely on, whether you pay for it or not. We can already see the writing on the wall with the frequent Emergency department closures, long wait times, OB-GYN closures, and the frequent long waits in open EDs.
Public Education is already the lowest funded in Canada, the research in this Substack shows adjusted for inflation is down $1893/student compared to 2018/19.
While Private Education has increased 58% in that same time period.
Why are we calling on YOU?
You are the power in Alberta; your voice matters, your vote matters. We need to educate Albertans about the recalls and for when they call the next election and we need YOUR help. This is not the time to be quiet; this is the time to get LOUD and get the message out there, each and every day. In every way we can.
We know you are worried and scared about what this government might do.
We have heard the stories, too. But if we don’t stand up, who will? If we don’t do it now, when will be a better time?
We can’t wait for someone to come save us. The separatists are reaching out to the US to help them with their agenda. That’s a problem.
But strength comes in numbers. Building community is important. They cannot go after everyone. We cannot expect the union to do a general strike, or the teachers to disregard Bill 2, but we can all support unions and the teachers. They, in turn, can support recalls by having their members sign recall petitions, sign up as canvassers, and donate to recalls.
As an Alberta resident, you have an opportunity to get the word out.
Here are the steps to follow to help with recalls:
Share this:
You can share this on Social Media, email, or print it out and give it to people.
Go to OperationTotalRecall.ca to find out where recall signings are happening.
Sign up to be a canvasser if you can.
You can get signatures from the people you know. The more canvassers there are, the more convenient it is for people signing, and every signature counts.
If you are in a recall area, donate to the recall.
They need money to print flyers and postcards, rent halls, do advertising on Social Media, and in your local papers.
Repost Recall signing information
Also repost any information about recalls, about how the government decisions are affecting Albertans.
Get educated.
Go online and find out what is happening. Here are some resources. (The UCP count on you not learning what is going on so they can continue to take apart Alberta.)

Educate your community:
The government counts on Albertans being complacent. That means they want to do what they are doing with little to no interference. To be honest, my family had no idea what was actually going on in Alberta. I talked and talked about what was happening. I kept bothering them until they signed onto the ABResistance Substack so they could see what was actually going on. Now we discuss what is happening and what Albertans are doing to stop the government from implementing its agenda. Not everyone is on social media, and not everyone listens to the news. But everyone talks to someone - spouse, children, parents, other family members, neighbours, and community members. You can be that someone who lets them know what is going on.
Final Call to Action:
Everyone will be impacted by this government’s actions at some point, or in some way, if they aren’t already.
