Hold the Line
Together you and your fellow Albertans will win this!
Let’s Ho Ho Hold Danielle Smith responsible for what’s happening in Alberta.
Hello fellow Resistors.
I have just looked at the Bills 1 through 14 that have been rammed through our legislature. Bills that attack teachers, children, the LGBTQIA2S+ community, health care, and justice. Bills that were given an hour of time for discussion between readings, whose votes were called during division. Bills that the UCP have unanimously voted for and that have already received Royal Assent by the Lieutenant Governor.
This is the time: the shortest, darkest days of the year. This is the time to celebrate with family, to spend time together. If you need a break because it is all too much, we understand. Take a break, regroup and we will still be here holding space for you and your fellow Albertans. We Are Not Defeated!
People have filed “RECALLS.” They are the heroes standing up for Alberta right now - saying we won’t take this and this government is accountable to us. We can help them. Sign the recalls in your areas and the Citizen Initiatives (apparently the Coal Mine one has to be refiled). When I start getting down about things I start looking for information, for the facts. Here is my list today.
We have wins!
There was a poll done where they have discovered 81% of Albertans don’t want public money going to private schools. Win for the Public Money for Public Schools Initiative.
The “Danielle Smith Government” (we are calling it that because she is the one calling all the shots and the members of her cabinet are following her blindly, or are being richly rewarded for their loyalty allegedly) has shown most of her cards with the legislation she has passed this last session. We can see that she is setting up privatizing health care, undermining supports for the vulnerable and enriching private companies.
She has had to use the notwithstanding clause not once, not twice, not three times - but four times which tells you they know they are in the wrong.
People are speaking out and speaking up - Dr. Parks is doing town halls with Friends of Medicare. People are researching, posting and substacking the facts. Find your people, follow them. Connect on Social Media - Join a recall as a supporter, you can door knock, drop literature or just be there as an observer so that canvassers are safe.
Those who argue with you, put you down or call you names are doing that because they either don’t have the facts or they are afraid. They only feel powerful when they put someone else down.
The Alberta Republican Party, the separatists are talking to people in the US. Danielle Smith keeps sending MLAs down there to shmooze with the Americans. We are not American, we are Canadian. What I heard Forever Canada signers say is: “We are Canadians who live in Alberta. I am Canadian.”
Yes, the separatists are getting louder, they are refiling their question and they are going to get signatures. You need to know you are not powerless in this. You have a voice and you have a vote. In Alberta there are ~ 5 million people, of those 5 million as of May 2025 there were 2,966,192 eligible voters. During the last election they saw 1,777,321 votes cast, for a turnout of 59.5 percent. We can do better than that. If there is a referendum we need to get out the vote for Alberta. During Forever Canada at least 400,000 Albertans signed the petition.
Let’s break it down even more - Calgary has 26 constituencies with 900,271 votes. Edmonton has 20 constituencies with 725,257 votes - That’s 1,625,528 votes. The Rural areas (21constituencies) have - 1,328,534 and that includes Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Leduc Beaumont, Airdrie etc. We need to stay the course, continue to educate Albertans, build community and we can stop this “madness.”

Let’s look at the Christian Affiliations percentage and numbers in Alberta. This data is from the 2021 census. Of the approximately 2 million Christians 20% are Catholic, 12% are Protestant, 3% are Christian Orthodox, Latter Day Saints or Jehovah Witnesses. 13% are Christian non-specified or other Christian related traditions. 48% of Albertans identify as Christians but only 13% are possible Christian Evangelicals.
They are louder, but there are not more of them than there are of Albertans that want to stay in Canada.
They are trying to intimidate and force us to stop pushing back. When they do that we push back harder. Danielle Smith was elected to govern for ALL ALBERTANS not just for her base. WE need to hold the UCP to that.
The louder they get the more it proves we are getting to them.
Keep posting and reposting recall signings whenever you come across them.
Post memes, facts, information about what is happening in Alberta.
Support each other.
Talk to your neighbors, co-workers, friends about what is happening if you feel comfortable doing that. Most of us are just wanting to raise our families and do our jobs, so we don’t pay attention to what is happening. Let them know.
Join Picket protests at your MLAs office or in a group at different locations that are advertised.
Repost YYCCowboy and Frazzleheads hospital closures, this will help keep your friends and loved ones safe. The flu/COVID/RSV is rampant in hospitals right now - if you have an alternative to Emergency Rooms please use those.
Watch podcasts, educate yourself - Markham Hislop, Charlie Angus, Nancy McClure, ColeNotCole, Lisa, Knitty on TikTok, these are a few I watch and support - they have great information. Some other everyday heroes are Dr. Jared Wesley, Nate Pike of the Breakdown, share your favorites on facebook/X/Bluesky - let’s get the positive knowledge moving.
Some Blogs from Albertans in the know that can help us plot a direction forward.
Don’t panic. There is nothing happening tomorrow that we can’t handle together.
Write your MLA, what do you want to see happening in Alberta, ask them about their plans for an area you are interested in - education, health care, social services, environment, energy etc.
You are powerful, your voice deserves to be heard, your vote is your ticket to democracy.
