Welcome to a new year, a new beginning. Recall News: WE have one MLA who is resigning as Minister of Environment and Parks and will step down as an MLA on May 26, 2026. This will be the end of the spring session. Cracks are starting to appear. We just need to keep putting on the pressure.
This month, the separatists will be out gathering signatures for their referendum question. Social media will be full of videos, posts, and propaganda. Don’t let it get to you. Your job is to stay the course and support recalls. They are hoping to get enough signatures, but it is also there to serve as a distraction. We have 23 active recalls (We are not counting Nathan Neudorf). This is doable, but we need to work together. If you can canvass in a recall constituency, sign up. If you can sign a recall, then sign. If you live in a recall constituency and can afford to donate to them, please do.
If you do not live in a constituency, your job is to support them. If you can help out with being a door-knocking buddy, or you can repost on social media when you see signing locations or information about what the UCP is doing. You can also talk to family and friends about what you are learning. Many Albertans don’t know how bad it is in education, health care, social services, homelessness, addictions etc., because it does not affect them yet. My family didn’t know, but talking and sharing what is happening has them cheering on the sidelines for every recall announced, for every MLA stepping down. Even my sister in Ontario is watching Alberta news to see what we are doing here.

Thank you to those who have taken the first step in recalls. Now comes the hard part: canvassers have 90 days to gather signatures. The more canvassers we have, the faster and more efficiently signatures can be collected.

The 2026 calendar shows the first three months of the year - no days the legislature is sitting are posted up to the end of March. Another 3 months off. They sit for a minimum amount of days and then push legislation through with little debate time.

You keep showing up! You are doing it - The UCP is refusing to fund Elections Alberta to check the petition signatures. Call your MLA, and copy it to the opposition if they are UCP. We need to push back and track the emails, letters, and calls we are making.

In that vein, there is going to be a Picket Protest at the Legislature on every second Saturday from 10:30 to 11:30 - It is starting this Saturday, January 3, 2026. Make some signs and layer up to join this Protest.

(This week, there was the tragic death of a father and husband who sat in the Emergency Room at Grey Nuns Hospital for over 8 hours and died of a heart attack.)
It’s important that you know your loss matters. We want to document what is happening in our hospitals and the lives that are being impacted or lost because of the Collapse of Alberta Health. Did you know that Alberta Health is no longer tracking deaths because of wait times to see a doctor, lack of EMS, and emergency rooms are closed and not recorded. If you feel comfortable and would like to tell your story, so we have a record of lives being impacted by the government’s restructuring of health care in Alberta.

The Minister of Environment and Parks has stepped down and will step down as an MLA on May 26, 2026.
asking for volunteers in their constituencies,
accusing Recall petitioners of benefiting financially from Recalls,
posting defensive letters on Facebook,
having meetings about Classroom Complexity,
pledging $69 million for mental health in schools that was budgeted for nine months ago as if it’s a new promise,
asking school boards for numbers,
canceling contracts for CSFs that are connected to Sam Mraiche,
as well as talking about adding 1000 acute care beds in a Presser.
They added 7 more days to the fall sitting so they could push through Bill 9 that impacts Transgender persons - this is the issue their base cares about because it makes them uncomfortable - Cruelty is the purpose. Please stand with the LGBTQIA2S+ community. They have once again used the notwithstanding clause for Bill 9, which makes it 4 times in two months.
They just rewrote the Citizen Initiative Act - to file on it will now cost $25,000, and you cannot fundraise for that.
They also, with Bill 14, gave immunity to the Justice Minister/Attorney General of Alberta for any decisions that he makes.
Nate Horner introduced a bill that protects AIMCo from being sued for any money losses for bad investment decisions.
Let’s not forget the 1000 new teachers they were supposed to hire in the contract for this year? They said they already included money in the budget for that, so yeah, that’s not happening.
They changed the laws with Bill 14 giving the Separatists the opportunity to ask their question and push for Alberta’s separation from Canada.
In the fall of 2025, Alberta’s legislature passed several bills, including those that invoked the notwithstanding clause to affect transgender rights, such as restricting gender-affirming healthcare for youth under 16, policing names and pronouns in schools, and banning transgender girls from participating in female sports. Additionally, other bills focused on education, healthcare, and public safety were also part of the legislative agenda. CityNews

This is true, but it shows they are playing defense, that means we are getting to them. We need to keep pushing, the cracks are showing. As Charlie Angus says keep kicking at the darkness until the light shines through the cracks.
A resignation to take effect in five months seems less like a resignation than a tactic to deflect attention from accountability.
