MCFN strongly opposes the treat and release practices of the Oil and Gas industry. Tailings ponds contain toxic substances like naphthenic acids, heavy metals, and hydrocarbons, which may persist even after treatment. The long-term effects on fish, wildlife, and downstream water users remain uncertain. Join us to learn more and support our efforts to keep our land and water clean and protect the health of our people. Everyone is welcome!

October 30th, Thursday – ADAP is a deadly, ableist plan: “We won’t be quiet
On Thursday, Oct 30 • 12–2 pm • Alberta Legislature (Edmonton), we’re gathering to say no to forced transfers off AISH and no to deeper poverty. This rally is organized by the People’s Alliance for Disabled Albertans (PADA)—disabled people, families, and allies
Why we’re showing up:
The government plan would move most people on AISH to ADAP with a $200 lower base rate,
Reclassification without real choice = greater risk of poverty and harm.
We demand equitable access, income security, and dignity.”
Time: 12 to 2 pm
Location: Alberta Legislature, north plaza (I am seeking clarification on the precise location so that people don’t go the wrong place)
Facebook: Zachary Weeks

I came across this group called PADA.... the People’s Alliance for Disabled Albertans. They are hosting a rally on Oct 30...It’s a space where Albertans are coming together to share updates, organize, and support one another around disability and accessibility issues in Alberta. it sounds like they might be working on pushing back/raising awareness around ADAP
They’ve set some simple ground rules: keep things respectful, protect confidentiality, and make sure posts are accessible so everyone can participate. There are also different crews you can join if you want to be more active... things like advocacy, communications etc.
If you’re interested in showing your support (which they direly need and would appreciate!!!), here’s the link to learn more and sign up: https://docs.google.com/.../1FAIpQLSeFd77M39vwp4.../viewform
Feel free to pass this along to others who might want to be part of it.

UPDATE — Alberta Next Panel Oversight
Elections Alberta has completed its review of the Alberta Next Panel complaint (File No. 2025-0213). Their office confirmed they do not regulate or investigate the conduct of government officials, MLAs, or boards and panels comprised of those members.
That means this issue now falls under other oversight offices — specifically:
The Office of the Ethics Commissioner (for MLA or ministerial conduct);
The Office of the Speaker (for MLA privileges); and
The Auditor General of Alberta (for the use of public funds or resources).
What This Means
Elections Alberta reviewed the complaint and formally closed the file — this helps clarify where accountability belongs. The concerns about potential misuse of public resources, data, or government platforms connected to the Alberta Next Panel can now be directed to the Ethics Commissioner for proper review.
What You Can Do
If you personally experienced confusion, received unexpected emails, or believe public resources were used inappropriately in connection with the Alberta Next Panel, you can now write directly to:
info@ethicscommissioner.ab.ca
Subject: Request for Review – Potential Misuse of Public Resources Related to the Alberta Next Panel
Email Template:
Dear Commissioner,
Elections Alberta has confirmed that this matter is outside their jurisdiction and advised that it may fall under yours.
I am writing as an Alberta resident to request a review of potential misuse of public resources related to the Alberta Next Panel, which was promoted and operated in connection with the Premier’s Office.
I personally experienced confusion or concerns about how the survey and parallel UCP Alberta Next survey was presented or managed. [Add one or two sentences describing your experience.]
I ask your office to review whether public resources or government communications were used for partisan purposes or outside the intent of public consultation.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
[Full Name]
[City / Town], Alberta
[Email Address]Why It Matters
Transparency and accountability only work when citizens follow through — even when the first door closes.
The right oversight body now has the chance to review what happened and ensure Alberta’s public resources are used properly.
#AlbertaNext #Accountability #Transparency #Ethics #PublicTrust #YourVoiceMatters
Real change starts with you. Let your voice be heard at Alberta.ca/next. Alberta may hold a referendum in 2026. Help decide what’s on it.
The Alberta Next Panel conversations are based on the Free Alberta Strategy authored by Barry Cooper, Derek From, and Rob Anderson (Danielle Smith’s Chief of Staff): https://www.freealbertastrategy.com/the_strategy
They also have a website:
https://www.freealbertastrategy.com/
They are organized and have money. We need to stand up and show that we oppose their plans. We made them blink on the expense account, book bans, and vaccines for healthcare workers. We have the power! Keep making noise!
Let’s all work together to make Alberta work for everyone!
The next town halls are:
Online October 22nd
The link will be live on the website 2 weeks before this town hall.
Here are the links for the completed town halls.
