ABR Resister/Resistor Update
March 13, 2026
RECENT NEWS
from the Edmonton Journal March 2026
Meanings: We chose Resistor for the name of this newsletter
The meaning of RESISTOR is a device that has electrical resistance and that is used in an electric circuit for protection, operation, or current control. We see our job as an opportunity to offer protection to the people who join us. To operate together and to keep the energy flowing to ensure we can stand up to this government.
A resister is one who resists, stands firm against something, refuses compliance, or withstands temptation. A resister may also be a coating that protects a surface during some processes. Related words are resist, resists, resisted, resisting, resistible, resistibility, and resistibly. Resister appears in the late fourteenth century from the Old French word resister, meaning hold out against.
We are both… a resistor that allows the current to connect the dots and one who resists.
AB Resistance believes that ALL Albertans have the right to be informed. If you have events to advertise, please reach out to us either on our Facebook page, our website, or at ABResistance.ca. Cracks are starting to appear. We just need to keep putting on the pressure.
This month, the separatists will be out gathering signatures for their referendum question. Social media will be full of videos, posts, and propaganda. Don’t let it get to you. Your job is to stay the course and support recalls. They are hoping to get enough signatures, but it is also there to serve as a distraction.
There are 4 active UCP recalls. This is doable, but we need to work together. If you can canvas in a recall constituency, sign up. If you can sign a recall, then sign. If you live in a recall constituency and can afford to donate to them, please do. Elections Alberta has assured all the recalls that the petition sheets will not be available for anyone to see other than EA, the canvasser, when they collect the signature and the petitioner.
If you do not live in a constituency, your job is to support them. If you can help out with being a door-knocking buddy, or you can repost on social media when you see signing locations or information about what the UCP is doing. You can also talk to family and friends about what you are learning. Many Albertans don’t know how bad it is in education, health care, social services, homelessness, addictions etc., because it does not affect them yet. My family didn’t know, but talking and sharing what is happening has them cheering on the sidelines for every recall announced, for every MLA stepping down. Even my sister in Ontario is watching Alberta news to see what we are doing here.
Check here for signing locations and more information:

March 15th, Sunday – International Day Against Police Brutality: We will screen a documentary “No Visible Trauma”.
“In the midst of a global uprising against police brutality and systemic racism, No Visible Trauma examines a deeply troubled police department and reveals the devastating consequences of unchecked police brutality. Despite its relatively low crime rates, recent years have seen the Calgary Police Service shoot and kill more people than officers in any other Canadian city, and more than either the New York or Chicago police departments in 2018. Five years in the making, the film unravels the intertwined stories of three individuals who were the victims of extreme violence at the hands of police officers. From the kidnapping and beating of a young immigrant from Ghana to the fatal shooting of an unarmed man during a “wellness check”, the film exposes a criminal justice system that fails to hold police officers accountable for their actions.”

March 18th, Wednesday – Creative Strategies to Resist Authoritarianism: “Authoritarianism is on the rise globally — AND so is our power to push back. Artists and cultural workers play a pivotal role in successful people-powered movements, shaping what’s possible through story, symbol, and song, and moving/inspiring people to courageous action.
Built by and for cultural workers, this training offers insight and connection to meet this moment with strategy, courage, and creativity. Together, we’ll unpack how mass noncooperation can block authoritarian power, learn from global resistance efforts, and imagine how our craft can power collective action. We’ll also take a strategic look at key moments for U.S.-based movement-building in 2026—World Cup, Bicentennial, and Midterm Elections—and consider how artists and cultural organizers can most effectively align with movement priorities.
Whatever your creative medium or path, you’re part of a vital cultural frontline. Let’s grow our power, refuse compliance, and make culture that blocks, bridges and builds.
This training is co-hosted by Beautiful Trouble and US Dept of Arts and Culture. Please note that we are hoping to provide any needed language interpretation, but we may not be able to do so for all requested languages.”

March 27th, Friday – Fascism: What Is It & How to Fight It: “We’ll be hosting an event, “Fascism: What It Is and How to Fight It?”, at 5:45PM on Friday, March 27th at the Earth’s Refillery Coop on 95st.
It is very common to hear people call Trump and the MAGA movement “fascist.” It is true that he has brought out a variety of outwardly reactionary policies, but does this constitute “fascism” as liberals and the media often claim, or just the reality of capitalism in this age of chaos and crisis? Does it even matter whether we call Trump a fascist or not? And regardless of what we call him, how can we fight these policies and put and end to his and others’ regressive attacks?
If you’d like to get an answer to these questions and more, and/or have thoughts of your own, come out and meet us for this event! We hope to see you there!”

March 24th, Tuesday – Thoughtful Tuesday: 2040 Documentary Screening: Thoughtful Tuesday is a free weekly series of screenings being held at Earth’s Refillery Coop and Cafe.
‘2040’ is an innovative feature documentary that looks to the future, but is vitally important now. Award-winning director Damon Gameau embarks on a journey to explore what the future would look like by the year 2040 if we simply embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them into the mainstream. Structured as a visual letter to his 4-year-old daughter, Damon blends traditional documentary footage with dramatized sequences and high-end visual effects to create a vision board for his daughter and the planet.”

March 26th, Saturday – No Kings Solidarity Rally: “This rally is in solidarity with the people in the USA who are gathering in their millions to challenge Trump imperialism.
“No Thrones. No Crowns. No Kings. In 2025, millions of Americans came together in nonviolent protest to oppose the growing authoritarian actions of the Trump administration. And on March 28th, we are coming together again, bigger and louder than ever before.
Every time the Trump administration escalates its violent attacks on everyday people and tries to take our freedoms, the No Kings movement grows stronger. When our families are under attack, and costs are pushing people to the brink, we will defend ourselves and our communities against this administration’s unjust and cruel acts of violence now and in the streets on March 28″
Oh, and we will also highlight the Epstein files at the rally. “

March 31st, Tuesday – Thoughtful Tuesday Documentary Screening: Food, Inc 2: Thoughtful Tuesday is a free weekly series of screenings being held at Earth’s Refillery Coop and Cafe.
“The groundbreaking Oscar®-nominated documentary Food, Inc. ignited a cultural conversation about the multinational corporations that control our food system at enormous cost to our planet, workforce, and health.
In the well-timed sequel, Food, Inc. 2, comes “back for seconds” to reveal how corporate consolidation has gone unchecked by our government, leaving us with a highly efficient yet shockingly vulnerable food system dedicated only towards increasing profits.”

A special ask from Ali Morrison, host of the Speaker’s Series: If you are or have experienced difficulty in the Health Care system, she would like to document it. (This week, there was the tragic death of a father and husband who sat in the Emergency Room at Grey Nuns Hospital for over 8 hours and died of a heart attack.)
You must know your loss matters. We want to document what is happening in our hospitals and the lives that are being impacted or lost because of the Collapse of Alberta Health. Did you know that Alberta Health is no longer tracking deaths because of wait times to see a doctor, lack of EMS, and emergency rooms are closed and not recorded. If you feel comfortable and would like to tell your story, so we have a record of lives being impacted by the government’s restructuring of health care in Alberta.
Please email EMSsafeline@gmail.com
Ali has a way to share how the collapse of Health Care in Alberta is impacting the people who live here, and she would like to include your story because you are not just a number; your life and the lives of your family matter to us. Help us put a face to the damage that is being done.

The Alberta Next Panel conversations are based on the Free Alberta Strategy authored by Barry Cooper, Derek From, and Rob Anderson (Danielle Smith’s Chief of Staff): https://www.freealbertastrategy.com/the_strategy
They also have a website:
https://www.freealbertastrategy.com/
Smith is breaking the law and refusing to release the results of the online survey to Albertans.
They are organized and have money. We need to stand up and show that we oppose their plans. We made them blink on the expense account, book bans, complex classrooms in public schools (this week), and vaccines for healthcare workers. We have the power! Keep making noise!
********************************************************************
Setting up a group to study Classroom Complexity, and asking Alberta’s teachers to volunteer their time with no compensation. This is wrong.
Danielle Smith’s address to Albertans and her scheduling a referendum on October 19th, 2026, to address immigrants’ rights in Alberta. Also, one on voter ID, copying the Americans’ attempt to limit voters in elections. It is not an accident. (PS immigrants pay taxes and add to the wealth of the province, even though they are limited as to what they receive.)
They are funding private/independent for profit schools $90 million to create 6000 spaces instead of putting that money into public Education.
They just gave $525 million more to private surgical companies for the non-complex surgeries while canceling stipends for family doctors working as hospitalists to look after patients after surgeries in public hospitals.
****************************************************************
How To Win! We are doing it!!!
You need to engage everyone who is affected by the circumstances.
You give them the power to stand up and fight for what is right.
You validate the struggle, but the win is worth it.
Every person counts, every signature counts, every vote counts.
Together we can do hard things!
For information, check out: operationtotalrecall.ca
You can volunteer; there is contact information to email them or check out their websites.
