ABR Resister/Resistor Update
February 27, 2026
RECENT NEWS
Meanings: We chose Resistor for the name of this newsletter
The meaning of RESISTOR is a device that has electrical resistance and that is used in an electric circuit for protection, operation, or current control. We see our job as an opportunity to offer protection to the people who join us. To operate together and to keep the energy flowing to ensure we can stand up to this government.
A resister is one who resists, stands firm against something, refuses compliance or withstands temptation. A resister may also be a coating that protects a surface during some processes. Related words are resist, resists, resisted, resisting, resistible, resistibility, resistibly. Resister appears in the late fourteenth century from the Old French word resister, meaning hold out against.
We are both… a resistor that allows the current to connect the dots and one who resists.
AB Resistance believes that ALL Albertans have the right to be informed. If you have events to advertise, please reach out to us either on our Facebook page, our website, or at ABResistance.ca Cracks are starting to appear. We just need to keep putting on the pressure.
This month, the separatists will be out gathering signatures for their referendum question. Social media will be full of videos, posts, and propaganda. Don’t let it get to you. Your job is to stay the course and support recalls. They are hoping to get enough signatures, but it is also there to serve as a distraction.
There are 8 active UCP recalls.
This is doable, but we need to work together. If you can canvas in a recall constituency, sign up. If you can sign a recall, then sign. If you live in a recall constituency and can afford to donate to them, please do. Elections Alberta has assured all the recalls that the petition sheets will not be available for anyone to see other than EA, the canvasser, when they collect the signature and the petitioner.
If you do not live in a constituency, your job is to support them. If you can help out with being a door-knocking buddy, or you can repost on social media when you see signing locations or information about what the UCP is doing. You can also talk to family and friends about what you are learning. Many Albertans don’t know how bad it is in education, health care, social services, homelessness, addictions etc., because it does not affect them yet. My family didn’t know, but talking and sharing what is happening has them cheering on the sidelines for every recall announced, for every MLA stepping down. Even my sister in Ontario is watching Alberta news to see what we are doing here.
Check here for signing locations and more information:

A look at the 26 Alberta politicians facing citizen recall petitions | CBC News (8 left)
Thank you to those who have taken the first step in recalls. Now comes the hard part: canvassers have 90 days to gather signatures. The more canvassers we have, the faster and more efficiently signatures can be collected.

The 2026 calendar
https://www.assembly.ab.ca/
They sit 3 days in February, 14 days in March, 10 days in April, and 8 days in May. A total of 35 days in four months, and they say teachers have it easy! Given that the last session passed 14 pieces of legislation with limited debate time and used the notwithstanding clauses 4 times, this session will be interesting. As of Wednesday, February 25th, two pieces of legislation have been introduced. One is to activate Alberta’s police force.

You keep showing up! You are doing it. You are the power behind the RECALLS. The power behind EDUCATING ALBERTANS. The power behind CHANGE and BUILDING AN ALBERTA THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE!!!

It is also Chinese New Year - Gong Hey Fat Choy - The year of the Fire Horse: A year of Change
马年兴旺,家庭团圆乐无边!
Wishing you a prosperous Year of the Horse, with family reunions and endless joy.
Lunar New Year, festival typically celebrated in China and other Asian countries that begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends on the first full moon of the lunar calendar, 15 days later. The lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, so the dates of the holiday vary slightly from year to year, beginning some time between January 21 and February 20 according to Western calendars. This year it started on February 17th.

and… it’s the start of Ramadan, the Muslim Holy month
Ramadan Mubarak to all who participate.
Ramadan 2026 is expected to begin on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 and will end on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Eid al Fitr 2026 is expected to be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2026. This is the tentative date as the actual date of commencement of Ramadan 2026 is subject to the sighting of the moon of Ramzan 1447H.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the 9th month in Islamic calendar / Hijri Calendar. The length of the Month varies between 29 and 30 days depending on the sighting of the Shawwal Moon which leads to the much awaited Islamic festival of Eid ul Fitr on the 1st of Shawwal. Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam and during this holy month, Al-Quran was first revealed to the Prophet Mohammed (S.A.W.). The word ‘Ramadan’ comes from the Arabic world ‘Ramad / Ramida’ which means scorching heat or drought. So the word Ramadan means abstinence from eating and/or drinking anything from dawn till dusk.

Weekly Pickets and Protests:
Red Deer and Medicine Hat continue to show up week after week to protest. Red Deer is in Week 55! Protests are still alive!
Medicine Hat - Saturdays Address TransCanada Way/13th Ave. Time 10:30 - 11:30 am
Medicine Hat is so fortunate to have a community of ralliers. These folks have been meeting on Saturday mornings for years to shine a light on the values they are guided by. When the recall Danielle Smith petition got approved, they didn’t blink or think twice about welcoming recall into their community.
These folks not only gave us an existing platform for us to elevate our initiative from, but the quite literally rallied behind our cause, adapted with and pivoted for recall.
We are so honoured to now consider ourselves a part of the rally community.
Saturday February 28 will be the last Saturday we rally for recall Danielle Smith. But the rally community will continue to thrive, advocate and educate and normalize free speech and fight against conformity for conformity’s sake.
We would be honoured if you joined us for our final recall rally
February 28 @11:00am
740 Division Ave N Medicine Hat (in front of Danielle Smith’s Medicine Hat constituency office).— with AwareMHAB.

March 3rd, Tuesday – Thoughtful Tuesday Documentary Screening: Push: “Landlords without faces, apartments without tenants, Push explores the new, unaffordable, unlivable city.
Thoughtful Tuesday is a free weekly series of screenings being held at Earth’s Refillery Coop.
The Push: The Film is being hosted in collaboration with ECOHH (Edmonton Coalition on Housing and Homelessness).
“With housing now such a lucrative financial investment, how do we push back and reclaim our homes?
In November of 2016, award-winning filmmaker Fredrik Gertten reached out to Global Director Leilani Farha, then UN Special Rapporteur on the right to housing, on Twitter to learn more about her work. Three years later, the feature-length documentary Push premiered globally in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Push follows Leilani as she investigates why cities around the world are becoming so unaffordable. Housing is a fundamental human right, a precondition to a safe and healthy life, and is recognized by law in many countries. But in cities all around the world, finding and keeping a place to live is becoming increasingly difficult. Who are the players, and what has made housing one of the defining crises of our time?”
The format is that people are invited to attend these free screenigns which will start at 6:30pm.
After the screening, we will discuss what we watched, how it affected you, and what might you do with the information and emotions you gained about this subject.”
Time: 6.:30 pm
Location: Earth’s Refillery Coop, 10831 – 95th Street

This is a free workshop offered by Earth’s Refillery Coop & Cafe to empower people and save money.

March 8th, Sunday – International Women’s Day: “#InternationalWomensDay isn’t just about women. It’s also about the girls who will lead next .
This #IWD2026, support girls in becoming confident, resilient, and inclusive leaders. The FREE Lean In Girls resource gives educators and communities practical tools to help girls lead on their own terms.”
March 8th, Sunday International Women’s Day Dinner and Discussion: “We will enjoy a delicious catered meal, following appis and a cash bar. Reserve today! No one turned away for lack of funds.
International Women’s Day (IWD), March 8th, was established 115 years ago and celebrated around the world. IWD represents and celebrates the fight of women to eliminate all forms of discrimination, oppression and violence, and to decide all matters which affect our lives, including matters of war and peace.
We celebrate the central role which women have played in all the decisive struggles of the day. We celebrate all the women in Canada and the world who are fighting for their rights, their dignity, and a future where all human beings can thrive. We celebrate that the oligarchs and the governments which serve them have failed in their aim to crush the resistance movements everyone. Resistance rising!
Women have played a leading role this year in battles for their rights as workers, for health care and education, for housing and food security, and everything needed for women and all humans to live in dignity and security. Speakers from the different sectors of the economy and society will inform to us about their work, their difficulties and successes, and what they have learned in the course of their struggles as to what is needed to strengthen our resistance movement. We will hear from women fighting for their rights as workers, for the rights of migrant workers, refugees and international students, for Indigenous rights, for the rights of the Palestinian people, climate activists and more.
Around the world extreme violence is being used to try and bring to their knees all who are fighting for freedom, genuine democracy and peace and the right to follow their own independent course. State-organized attacks are taking place against the migrant workers, refugees and international students who came to Canada with promises of a bright future and are now being blamed for all the problems of society.
We stand with the women and people of Cuba, of Palestine, of Venezuela, Sudan, Lebanon, Iran, and all who are fighting the U.S. imperialist monster and say we are all one – one struggle, one humanity!
We look forward to hearing everyone’s views and sharing a delicious meal together! Hosted by Women for Rights and Empowerment. Our annual IWD banquet has become a treasured event where we inform each other, celebrate our resistance, strengthen our commitment to be there for each other, and affirm our claims as women to decide all matters which affect our lives”

TOWN HALLS - currently postponed. There is a lot happening right now.

Dr. Parks and Dr. Sherman are asking Albertans to share their stories about their experiences with the healthcare system in Alberta. We have a way for you to do that.
A special ask from Ali Morrison, host of the Speaker’s Series: If you are or have experienced difficulty in the Health Care system, she would like to document it. (This week, there was the tragic death of a father and husband who sat in the Emergency Room at Grey Nuns Hospital for over 8 hours and died of a heart attack.)
You must know your loss matters. We want to document what is happening in our hospitals and the lives that are being impacted or lost because of the Collapse of Alberta Health. Did you know that Alberta Health is no longer tracking deaths because of wait times to see a doctor, lack of EMS, and emergency rooms are closed and not recorded. If you feel comfortable and would like to tell your story, so we have a record of lives being impacted by the government’s restructuring of health care in Alberta.
Please email EMSsafeline@gmail.com
Ali has a way to share how the collapse of Health Care in Alberta is impacting the people who live here, and she would like to include your story because you are not just a number; your life and the lives of your family matter to us. Help us put a face to the damage that is being done.

The Separatists are changing their languaging. They are now calling the movement an “Independence Movement.” Make no mistake they still want to separate, but the language is putting off everyday Albertans. Keep pushing back against the darkness until it bleeds daylight as Charlie Angus would say:
Charlie Angus was on the Meidas Network in the US talking about the US using Alberta to create dissension in Canada. It’s all coming to a head because of YOU and all YOUR hard work as Albertans to post, talk, and share what is happening here.
Thank you to the RECALL PETITIONERS FOR YOUR HARD WORK. If you haven’t signed yet, what are you waiting for? Your signature is protected. Once the sheets are submitted, EA destroys them once they are verified. No MLA has access to them. LET’S FINISH THE JOB! Standing Up Together Works! Out of the 18 recalls done 8 have reported numbers of signatures:
They have collected 25,000 signatures. 25,000 Albertans will not be supporting the UCP or the Separatists. If those 25,000 talk to 10 people we are up to 250,000 and if they each talk to 10 new people we could be up to 2,500,000! That is most of the voting population in Alberta.
Check Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Blue Sky and Recall Facebook pages. The Government is noticing - They are…
asking for volunteers in their constituencies,
accusing Recall petitioners of benefiting financially from Recalls,
posting defensive letters on Facebook,
pledging $69 million for mental health in schools that was budgeted for nine months ago as if it’s a new promise,
asking school boards for numbers, then claiming most schools have small class sizes.
canceling contracts for CSFs that are connected to Sam Mraiche, but renewing ones that are already in place for CSFs that he also has a share in.
as well as talking about adding 1000 acute care beds in a Presser. Still waiting for the plans. Refusing to call an emergency on Emergency Rooms.
They just rewrote the Citizen Initiative Act - to file on it will now cost $25,000, and you cannot fundraise for that.
They also, with Bill 14, gave immunity to the Justice Minister/Attorney General of Alberta for any decisions that he makes. Then Danielle Smith refers problematic legislation to Amery to deal with, as he has immunity.
Nate Horner introduced a bill that protects AIMCo from being sued for any money losses for bad investment decisions.
Let’s not forget the 1000 new teachers they were supposed to hire in the contract for this year? They said they already included money in the budget for that, so yeah, that’s not happening.
They changed the laws with Bill 14, allowing the Separatists to ask their question and push for Alberta’s separation from Canada.
Rebecca Schultz stepped down as Environment and Parks Minister and is stepping down as an MLA in May 2026.
Corb Lund got his petition approved for no coal mines on the Eastern Slopes. He is ready to gather signatures, so if you want to stand up for the environment, you can go here:
https://www.coalpetition.ca/
Pledging $143 million (money saved from teachers’ salaries during the strike) to set up 436 complexity teams, including one teacher and 2 Educational Assistants. They need to find 436 experienced teachers and 872 Educational assistants to do this. There are over 600 classrooms in Alberta that are deemed high complexity. The new complexity plan is a bandaid for a gaping wound in education… A bold investment in student success | Un investissement audacieux dans la réussite des élèves
Setting up a group to study Classroom Complexity, and asking Alberta’s teachers to volunteer their time with no compensation. This is wrong.
Danielle Smith’s address to Albertans and her scheduling a referendum on October 19th, 2026, to address immigrants’ rights in Alberta. Also, one on voter ID, copying the Americans’ attempt to limit voters in elections. It is not an accident. (PS immigrants pay taxes and add to the wealth of the province, even though they are limited as to what they receive.)

Smith is breaking the law and refusing to release the results of the online survey to Albertans.
They are organized and have money. We need to stand up and show that we oppose their plans. We made them blink on the expense account, book bans, complex classrooms in public schools (this week), and vaccines for healthcare workers. We have the power! Keep making noise!

We can take lessons from the Unions.
You need to engage everyone who is affected by the circumstances.
You give them the power to stand up and fight for what is right.

Every person counts, every signature counts, every vote counts.
